Dental implants are changing the way people enjoy life, rediscovering comfort and the confidence to speak, laugh, eat and face life with new self assurance.

Dental implants provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel and function as close as possible to natural teeth. Implants themselves are tiny titanium cylinders which are surgically inserted into jawbone where teeth are missing. Bone bonds to the titanium, creating a strong buttress for artificial teeth to be attached after healing is complete. In addition, implants help preserve bone structure, preventing the usual deterioration associated with missing teeth.

Once implants are firmly anchored, about 3-6 months after placement, the overlying gum tissue is removed and small posts are attached. These posts protrude through the gum and provide a place for attachment of the artificial replacement teeth.

Placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, they are placed within the bone, and remain covered with gum tissue for three to six months. bone/titanium bonding slowly occurs, during which time you should be able to wear your old dental appliance with a temporary reline. Your diet may be altered slightly, but there is surprisingly little discomfort or interruption with daily routines.

The second phase begins with the uncovering procedure. Once the posts are attached, your restorative dentist will begin the process of fabricating your replacement teeth. This is an exacting procedure which may take some time, sometimes several months. Your restorative dentist will explain the process to you in detail.
